What features you should look for in a good Windows Laptop?

If you have had a laptop for a long time you may have probably noticed that loading websites and creating documents is getting slower, it takes a long time for your computer to boot up and you are getting a lot of Windows errors, this can be an issue and at times it is not worth upgrading or repairing your computer, yeah there are things that you can do to your laptop to keep it running like adding more RAM or upgrading your hard drive to an SSD but at times you just need to move on and get the benefits of new hardware and a new operating system like Windows 10, today we are going to discuss what options are out there for you as far as laptops goes and what are the features that you should be looking for as well.

There are a lot of different types of laptop users, you have students that need a laptop to do their homework, most of them will use products like Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point, you also have laptop users that require a lot of processing power and memory like people who use Autocad to make 3D designs, then you have power users that use products like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop or even your bloggers and content creators that write, edit and upload tons of content every day, each person has different needs and that is the main reason why I do not just recommend any specific brand or model number, in the laptop world we will have to figure out which kind of laptop works best for you.

Awesome laptops at great prices

What version of Windows is best for you?

Ok let’s start, now that we are trying to figure out what the best feature your laptop needs to have lets start with which version of Windows you want to have, obviously you are not going to asking for Windows XP but let’s take a look at Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10, each one of these has many pros and cons and we will decide from here which version works best for you.  I know there are many fans of Windows 8 out there, this is because a lot of the new Laptops have touch screens and the interface does help when you do not want to interact much with the keyboard, a touch friendly interface will allow you to open your applications faster and more efficiently, however Windows 8 does have a lot of glitches and errors that have gotten people to downgrade to Windows 7, in this case Win 7 is a great OS for your laptop, it is very stable and secure, however this version of Windows will soon stop receiving support, if you want the best of both worlds I would suggest that you go with Windows 10, this is one of my favorite Operating Systems, Windows 10 gives you the best of both worlds and it will work great if you have a touch screen, you can also switch between Tablet or Desktop mode with a few clicks of the button, if you would like to upgrade your current version of Windows 10 you can buy a copy below.

How important is screen size for you?

Now let’s take a look at the screen sizes, this is a big factor on what you want to do with your laptop and how it will be used, if you are looking for a desktop replacement laptop then you want to buy a large screen laptop, probably 15″ will be great for a person who wants to do work and also be able to watch movies or other media, gaming will be also great if that is what you want to do, now if you are a person who travels a lot, say for example you are a Salesman and you want to present products and services to your clients and need a light weight computer with a small screen then a 12″ might work best for you, if you are an article writer or a publisher and want the portability but you need to work on your content then something in between might work best for you, in this case a 13″ laptop should do the trick, always remember that with hardware features comes weight, a person who deals with a lot of media might need a DVD drive and many SD card slots, this might require a heavier laptop, a person who needs the power and a great screen resolution but does not need a lot of extra features might be interested in a Microsoft Surface Pro.

Do you create content or consume content?

That is a great question and this is where we get into keyboard talk, there are two different types of users in this world, people who consume content and people who create it, if you use your laptop to read emails, watch videos online or to analyze spreadsheets then a keyboard will not really matter much to you, of course you will be writing emails or making comments at times but most keyboards are good enough for you to get the job done, now if you are a person who creates a lot of content, meaning that you spend hours writing articles or writing a book, if you are a person who creates manuals or creates long emails for school or your corporate office job then you are going to be looking for a high quality keyboard that is easy on the touch, the keys are separate and easy to access and that is comfortable, one big factor that you are going to need to consider is how big the keyboard is, I personally require a full size keyboard and I need something to be closer to a Desktop keyboard, in most cases laptop will not have this feature, specially the ultra portable laptops, when considering what you will be doing with your computer you have to make sure that they keyboard that comes with it suites your needs.

How much power does your laptop need?

Now let’s take a look at a very interesting fact that will determine what laptop you will be buying, this feature will determine how much money you will be spending and how much power you will be getting in your laptop, sure a beautiful screen is great and a nice keyboard to type on will help a lot, but just how much power you will need will determine the price of the laptop, as you may already know, the Hard Drive, how much RAM and what kind of processor will tell you much the laptop will cost you, if you are on a budget then you want to go with an AMD powered laptop, their processors are very budget friendly and you can still get some solid features for $500 to $750 dollars, if you are looking for a high end, gaming laptop with a Intel processor, an SSD hard drive and tons of RAM then you are going to be looking at a price of over $1,000 dollars, a little more or a little less, truth of the matter is that not everybody needs the most expensive laptop, if you are looking to browse the Internet, check your Facebook account and write a few documents for work or school a lower end laptop will be enough, if you are going to be meting with clients and presenting then you want to invest a little more into an Enterprise Level computer, now if you are a hard core video gamer and you want a mechanical keyboard with the latest in nVidia graphics and a powerful Intel processor, if you are going to spend hours gaming then this is the laptop for you, check out the gaming laptop below!

Who makes the best laptops out there?

There are many, many laptop manufactures out there and each one of them has their own benefits and features, from my own experience HP and Acer have the most budget friendly laptops out there, if you are on a big budget you can get a laptop for under $400 dollars, both of them will offer basic features and Home versions of Windows 10, these laptops can only be used to browse a few Google Chrome tabs at a time, you can have a couple of documents open and the hardware itself will not be that great, the battery life will also not be the best and the laptop may only last 2 or 3 years, of course these laptop manufactures do have higher end versions of their products but the market their products for users not looking to spend more than a few hundred dollars on a new computer. Dell and Lenovo on the other hand focus a lot on Enterprise and Corporate level users with solid hardware, they also include Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise on their installations and they provide a great level of support, these laptops are great for creating training documentation and they provide enough computing power for you to meet your every day needs and tasks. Now if you are looking to spend over a good amount of money and you want the most power that is available out there, if you want to be able to watch HD videos and play games at a high frame rate then Alienware which is own by Dell is the way to go, other options out there are MSI and ASUS and up and coming manufacturers like OMEN, the bottom line is that there are many options out there for all budgets and needs!
